Boating Skills & Adventure Sundays: Week 4

  • The Floathouse Petaluma 50 Water Street Petaluma, CA, 94952 United States (map)

This class is designed for kids age 11 to 15 who have some experience with paddle sports and watercraft (for example, our Small Boat Summer Camp) and are looking to take it to the next level. We will work on developing and refining paddle technique and boat control while using different pedal and paddle craft for adventuring. Each week we will introduce important topics and have local experts to start building a good foundation for becoming safe, skilled and knowledgeable water people.  In boating, as in everything else in life, competence leads to confidence.

Book here.

Topics may include:

  • Intro to Knots/rowing

  • Intro to tides/currents and conditions

  • Basic First Aid/rescues

  • Navigation/Creating a float plan

  • Entomology of Petaluma River

  • Plant and Animals of Petaluma Wetlands

We give you room to learn and grow and explore more than just boating; we want you to feel confident exploring yourself. We'll meet you where you are, and if you want to delve deeper into any particular subject, we'll help you learn more, with us, and beyond; we'll point you in the right direction.

No prior experience necessary. Six campers max. Starts at 10 am to give you a little more time to sleep!
